In 1983, the village of Saint Marie Du Mont offered a piece of land to the US. In 1984, on the 40th anniversary of D-Day, they dedicated a tall, red obelisk to those who fought here on June 6, 1944.

Caen Memorial (Le Mémorial de Caen)
A small museum is also located at the Caen Memorial (Le Mémorial de Caen). Commemorated here are events from 1918 to the present, with the unfolding and meaning of World War II being the main focus. The memorial is located only ten minutes away from the landing beaches.
